What we aim to solve
SOURCE: Self-reported by organization
Since the founding of ACC in 1995, our organization has undergone profound changes. ACC's mission to end animal homelessness in NYC and our strategies for NYC's shelter animals have been shaped over two decades by the number of homeless animals in NYC, the struggles among individuals and families who are without sufficient resources to keep their pets and our commitment to keep NYC safe for people and pets alike.

About ACC
Individuals from all over New York City come to Animal Care Centers every day of the week for reasons as diverse as reclaiming lost pets, adopting new furry family members and acquiring resources to help them keep their pets in homes. We strive to find loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats, dogs and rabbits, both by adopting animals directly to the public and by partnering with more than 200 dedicated animal placement organizations. We also provide field services to local emergencies and calls from the public to help keep NYC communities safe and rescue animals in need. With facilities in all five boroughs, ACC has an integral role in improving the lives of pets and people in NYC.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission is to end animal homelessness in NYC and we strive to find loving homes for abandoned animals both by adopting to the public and by partnering with animal placement groups.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
ACC is dedicated to working together with the community of NYC to provide the best level of care for nearly 30,000 animals each year. Our devoted and compassionate staff work with those whom ACC considers to be "New York's Kindest" - our New Hope rescue partners, fosters, volunteers, donors and animal welfare advocates around the city. We will continue to grow awareness of the importance of ACC's work and the needs of the homeless and abandoned animal population of NYC.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
ACC is invested in growing our many programs and departments, such as the Adoptions, Foster Care, Behavior and Enrichment, to continue to provide the best care for the animals that enter our doors. As one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, ACC also works with over 300 groups of dedicated rescue organizations called New Hope partners in an effort to find homes for the thousands of animals we rescue each year.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) has introduced several forward thinking changes to our operations and created new programs to better accomplish that goal, including; Dog Playgroups, dedicated to improving in-shelter experiences for dogs; Cat Condos, which provide privacy and comfort for cats; a Mobile Adoption Center, which brings adoptable animals to neighborhoods across the city as well as an Admissions Department, which decreases intake through surrender prevention counseling services. ACC is proud of what we have accomplished and we are committed to in the coming years, seeking out and seizing every opportunity to make ACC the most humane open-admissions animal welfare organization in the nation.
